Providing free, overnight, environmental learning experiences for students who don’t otherwise get the opportunity.
V.V. was born from the need to offer inner-city kids the opportunities and experiences that can ignite imagination, link classroom lessons to reality and boost self-confidence. These very experiences are birthrights of most children of the middle class. The majority of low-income students in the Bay Area have never walked in the redwoods, seen the beach, sung songs around the campfire and mostly have not been able to explore beyond their sometimes dangerous, impoverished neighborhoods.
At Vida Verde we’ve learned that participation in and exposure to various enriching experiences adds to a child’s belief that the future holds a place for her or him, academically, geographically and community-wise, and that there is the possibility to reach that place.
