The Loretto Community is a congregation of Catholic vowed Sisters and both lay and vowed Co-members. The Community is an outgrowth of the Sisters of Loretto. We were founded on the Kentucky frontier in 1812, which makes us one of the first religious communities of women in the United States. Today, our 178 Sisters and 211 Co-members continue to live out the Community’s mission to “work for justice and act for peace because the Gospel urges us.”

Traditionally a teaching order, the Loretto Community has expanded its work into many fields to promote justice, including education, healthcare, elder care, environmental stewardship and advocacy. We serve throughout the United States, in addition to our missions and partnerships in Pakistan, Ghana and Guatemala. Our Motherhouse is located in Nerinx, Ky., with centers and staff offices in St. Louis and Denver.
