California Shakespeare Theater’s Artistic Learning Residency program places teaching artists in Bay Area classrooms. Our teaching artists—all professional artists in their own right—collaborate with classroom teachers to support their teaching goals, and to meet California State Teaching Standards in English, History, and related subjects. Teaching artists bring theater-based activities such as, ensemble work, and script and character analysis into the classroom, getting students on their feet and working together—activating their minds and bodies to make the written word come alive, and ignite learning through their imaginations.

In 2014, over 1,500 Elementary, Middle and High School students will benefit from this program, with at least 50% of those in low-income school districts.
